MelJ replied to the topic First service – clutch slave / engine oil issue in the forum Vitpilen 701 Service Department 1 month, 1 week ago
I’ve got no idea what oil is in it 🙂 whatever the dealer use. Might be Motul.
Oil replaced at first service in Feb last year then replaced again as part of warranty claim for clutch slave failure 8 months later (they fitted an Oberon I supplied for me instead of waiting on warranty parts which were back ordered for a month).

Your clutch issue sounds like mine – was like that for a few weeks before it went. If the parts replaced were the same Husky parts I would not be surprised if the issue came back quickly.

MelJ replied to the topic 'TC Failure' in the forum Vitpilen 701 General Discussion 1 month, 1 week ago
I’ve had similar a few times – mainly down to battery failing. Low battery charge causes some canbus oddities. Though that of course is not the cause of all these kind of issues, it might be worth checking the state of your battery.
I also had TC failure warnings when my clutch was in the process of failing, but only when I was sitting in t…[Read more]

Looks good. How does it run, and how loud is that exhaust?

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I’ve been enjoying it more since I got it back but unfortunately I missed the last 6 weeks of the riding season waiting on parts. As far as I know they’re still waiting on clutch slave kits; I bought an Oberon just to get it over and done with.

I’m still undecided on keeping it. I will see how we get on in the s…[Read more] -

I’ve ridden a few of that ‘type’ – not since the K13 / GSX-S and BKing though. Those were very different and yet very similar to a Vit in one way – all of them want to rip your head off above 90mph, so for me the question is how do I want the bike to feel between 0-90mph? Ultimately I’m happier if the bike is not just getting started when I r…[Read more]

If you’re anywhere near Edinburgh, Tom, you can have my 800 mile ‘19 plate with Motobike Bregenz bar risers, husky tail tidy and side bag kit for £5.5k 😉

Knowing what I know now, I would not buy a Vitpilen 701. Reliability is poor, and resale is awful because Husqvarna continually drop prices. Here they were almost £9k new initially, within a year of release they were selling for £7k and 6 months after I bought mine some dealers were selling new previous year units for £5.5k. I would expect pr…[Read more]

MelJ replied to the topic Dyno help needed in the forum Vitpilen 701 Technical Forum 5 months, 2 weeks ago
My experience with this stuff is that you pay a lot of money to get a bike that is measurably worse than it was when it was new. Many places don’t really know what they are doing. You really need marque experts.
What did the bike make on a dyno before the mods? How many miles on the engine?

I’d be interested in how the install was, @Dan
Whats the story with the restriction to the steering lock?

The new 20s have the spoke wheels, the alloy pegs, the single exhaust hanger instead of pillion pegs, the pillion seat cover and maybe the mirrors too, can’t remember. Seems to me like the parts no one bought…

I believe Husky have already discontinued them, the 2020s are the last as I understand it. Most of them were made in late 2019 and they are using up a lot of the parts from the accessory bin…

They were too expensive to start with, they marketed them to the hipster crowd who didn’t have £9.5k to spend, they were all looking for CX500s to ruin with an angle grinder and some 1950s tyre designs 🙂 . Then they dropped the price…then dropped it again…then again. Imagine having bought at full price and 6 months later the retail price ha…[Read more]

Mine has started acting up at 650 miles. Pulled up at lights with the clutch lever pulled in, the bike will occasionally creep forward as if I was feathering the clutch out, then it will stall and fail to restart with a ‘TC. Failure’ warning. So far if I wait a little it will restart and I see no drop in fluid level, but it seems like this may be…[Read more]

MelJ replied to the topic Coolant leak, upper angle connector in the forum Vitpilen 701 Service Department 6 months, 3 weeks ago
I had this on mine from new. The angle connector is an overflow or breather and is a very gentle push fit into the header tank. The problem with mine was that the tube that runs into the tank from the angle connector was slightly too long so it would push the connector out of the tank slightly. Once the bike heated up and the coolant expanded it…[Read more]

I have the Motobike Bregenz ones. More expensive than the Gilles tooling version but cheaper than ABM. I bought them because I wanted to retain as much of the original look as possible and these look like OEM units. You get enough lift to make a significant difference to comfort. You also don’t need to restrict the lock or take 5 hours for i…[Read more]
