Has anyone installed the new saddle bags (linked above) that are now available in the shop on this website? I’m curious how the sit on the bike.
Secondly, has anyone purchased anything from the shop on this site? How was delivery/shipping?
Disclaimer – I’m own a svartpilen 401 but believe these should mount fine given the frames are the same.November 16, 2018 at 1:29 am #2747QwandreeModerator
I’ve bought stuff from the shop. Actually I try to buy all my parts from them to support this site. The shop on this site is really just https://www.ktm-parts.com/.
The guy(s?) who run ktm-parts / aomc started this forum (if I remember correctly he owns a svart 401). I’ve talked to him on email, he seems like a good guy.
In any case, delivery has been good. Prices seem about the same as elsewhere online. I bought the husky bar-end mirrors, service manual and some other small items from them. I have a style seat on order from them, but it is backordered.November 16, 2018 at 2:10 am #2748Anonymous
Awesome! Good to know! Are you referring to the dvd service manual? If so, how is it?November 16, 2018 at 2:13 pm #2750JoelParticipant
The Vitpilen 701 frame is different from the Vitpilen 401, I’d try to verify that it will fit the Svartpilen 401 before ordering…November 16, 2018 at 5:34 pm #2751QwandreeModerator
The service manual is ok. Not the most detailed manual and the dvd part is annoying (to me anyway), but it’s better than nothing.January 4, 2019 at 4:26 am #3104ChristopherParticipant
The bags look silly either way but be careful if you install them this way, you’ll have to place a heat shield so the stock exhaust doesn’t burn through the bag. The inner plastic on my bag started to melt. The bags take away from the styling the bike whether mounted correctly or not.January 9, 2019 at 6:24 pm #3148TCParticipant
Yep. They look silly alright….January 9, 2019 at 9:40 pm #3150NeoRetroParticipant

of course it looks silly, you mounted them backwardsFebruary 16, 2019 at 2:59 am #3521Svartpilen410Participant
so has anyone tried these on a 401 yet?April 9, 2019 at 7:40 pm #4396Weißer PfeilParticipant
interesting, it seems like you would be unable to seat a pillion with those mounted.May 1, 2019 at 3:55 pm #4797NeoRetroParticipant
Unit garage duffle bag on mine. I used the husqvarna rear bag carrier as the mounting point (https://www.ktm-parts.com/21012978030.html)October 10, 2019 at 2:51 pm #25169CacophoneParticipant
I’m interested in knowing whether these saddle bags will fit on a Svartpilen 701 as well? The Svart has a slightly different tail and i’m concerned it might interfere with the mount or bags?October 10, 2019 at 3:15 pm #25170Jedijoy13Participant
I have the Svart as well, and I don’t think they will fit. I am assuming based on the design that the mount under the tail. Wish they sold a single sided bag to have more options. I really like the unit garage mounts:
there’s a guy on the forum that took the mount and a Harbor Freight knock off and made a one-sided hard bag for much cheaper than in the link above.October 16, 2019 at 3:10 pm #25214CacophoneParticipant
So apparently the Vit bags are available as individual pieces in addition to the two bag kit. There is a part number for each bag — left and right — as well as the mounts for left and right.
I believe (though I don’t know for sure!) that the left bag and mount will fit the svartpilen the same as the vitpilen. I’m going to give it a try and will report back with the results.
