The dealer I bought it from told me that they’ll charge about $200 for the first service and will “unlock” the bike because it’s limited to 80% power before the first service… Is that true or are they just bullshitting me?

Not sure about the 401  but the 690 at KTM’s factory sets the shift light to come on at 6000rpm so you don’t over rev it during run in, at the first service they remove it so you can set it higher. Of course it is only a light and not a limiter so during run in you can take it to red line whenever you want but it is advised not too. Maybe it is the same?

Yeah the shift light comes on at about 6-7k rpms. You may be right.

Not sure the dealer does any unlocking to be honest.

I got my first service with 980 km and on the way home it rolled over the 1000 km mark.

The bime let’s you know its “unlockin” itself mid ride by flashing / lighting up the shift light permanently, so I pulled over and waited for it to stop.

Didnt need to shut off the engine, it finished lighting up and then it had use the full red line.
