the stock ecu does adapt but very little. Most bikes have a way to reset the stock ecu so it gose backto the factory settings. After you do the rest you let the bike idle for about 10min or so. This helps the ecu learn a new set of perameters. This helps after you replace things like an air temp sensor that whent bad. Again this is very limited and will not compensate for lean condition. The coober ecu works with the o2 sensor so it will adjust a wider range of pipes and air filters.
